Backstory

This is the earliest piece of writing I can salvage. It is not my "first" novel as there were probably a half dozen or more before this--Rogue Mutt has always been nothing if not prolific. This is the oldest one that's not stored on some ancient Apple II diskette or in old spiral notebooks.

Anyway, I wrote this as a sophomore in high school. It's about a young woman named Katie who's recruited to join some kind of street gang/criminal organization and her rise to power until she falls in love with an intrepid reporter who's investigating the organization. It's kind of "West Side Story" meets "Scarface" although I hadn't seen either at the time.

This is actually the second version of this story. The first featured an interesting structure where the first half of each chapter featured Katie in prison about ten years later while the second half of the captured featured Katie when she was still gang-banging. That was dropped in this version as it seemed too confusing.
